Braces work by bonding a small bracket to each tooth and threading a thin, flexible wire through them. The wire is shaped to guide teeth toward their ideal position, and it applies continuous gentle pressure that the teeth respond to by gradually moving through the jawbone.
Because braces stay on the teeth throughout treatment rather than being removable, they are often recommended for more complex tooth-movement or bite-correction needs, and they do not rely on remembering to wear something for a set number of hours each day.
Treatment typically involves periodic adjustment visits, where your orthodontist checks progress and updates the wire or adds small elastics as needed. Total treatment time varies by case; your orthodontist will give you a personalized estimate after your evaluation.
